Well, is it home?

I’m adding it up right now. Hold on. Result: 885 days. Or two years, five months excluding the end date. Or 29 months excluding the end date. I love the interweb. So here is the answer, it’s been roughly two and a half years since we woke up and drove from California to Oklahoma to start a new life and make it our home. Well, is it?

We did start a new life. But “has Oklahoma City become your home” is the question. Curious friends and family members ask this as if we have moved to mars. “Is there life out there?” I know what they’re asking. My wife and I ask each other this same question when we walk with our dog Indie. The answer we come up with is yes and no. How convenient.

I’m serious; it’s tough to answer this question. Is it a series of events that eventually add together and make you feel like, “ahhhh, this is home”? I have no idea. If that is the case, my wife and I will never feel like Oklahoma City would ever be home. Or anyplace for that matter. Too many totaled experiences in California through the years. Two lifetimes.

I’ve realized since moving to Oklahoma that I like living here. I like the people, the open spaces, the pace of life. California is in the rearview mirror. We don’t ever talk of moving back. So does that make Oklahoma home? Not sure, to be honest. That’s ok; we ain’t goin’ nowhere.
